“Friends of Peace” Group to Support UN SCR1325 Established

 Sulaymaniyah, 10 January 2010. Aiming at advocating the implementation of UN SCR1325, to which Iraq is signatory, adopted in October 2000 at the Sceurity Council Resolution meeting 4213, and following a series of meetings amongst women’s rights activists, a number of Civil Society and women’s rights activists met on Sunday 10 January 2010 at the Asuda Office in Sulaymaniyah and annoucned the establishment of “Friends of Peace” group.

 

 

 

The group aims at supporting the resolution and call for its active implementation. The  group also eandervors to support the role of women in building social and political peace in the region as women and children are often the main victims of conflicts and political confrontation.The “Friends of Peace” calls upon all people inside and outside Kurdistan who share the same aim to extends cooperation and support to the group with the aim of better and more active engagement in implementing SCR1325 to portect women and children and put an end to the ongoing defamation of women and using them as means to settle political differences in Kurdistan at the present time.
