Erbil, 2 September 2009: Mr. Ad Melkert, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Iraq visited Asuda Office in Erbil and met Ms. Khanum Raheem Lateef, Asuda's Programme Manager.

Mr. Melkert's visit to Asuda was in the course of his first visit to Kurdistan Region after his appointment in July 2009 as the UN Sepcial Representative for Iraq. Ms. Raheem briefed the UN Secretary General's Special Representative on situtaion of women's rights and Asuda's activities and porgrammes as well as joint activities with the UN agencies. The role and activities of the UN agencies and programmes were also discussed.

Mr. Melkert' conlcuded his visit by meeting a survivor of violence against women who received portection and support from Asuda.
