Asuda Participates in an International Conference in Västerås, Sweden Print E-mail

 Stockholm: Represening Asuda, Ms. Chia Yaseen attended an international conference Västerås, Sweden.

The conference was organized by Arosdaughters and was attended by women representing organizations from Iraq, Sweden and other countries.

On January 21, 2009, in memory of Fadime Sahindal, who was honour killed, held the first international conference for the network in Västerås, thanks to the Swedish financiers. On the network meeting which followed January 22, 2009 decided that the network will be called International Network against Honour Based Violence.

Arosdaughters were initially visited by young girls with immigrant backgrounds from Iraqi Kurdistan, which already at the age of 15 were forced to move back to their country of origin to include forced marriage or were prevented from returning to Sweden after having followed their parents into the country of origin.  

 

Therefore Arosdaughters formed a project against honour-based violence. One were working preventive including information sessions in schools and they handed out mini-flaps with phone numbers to call if help needs arose, in many places, in schools, youth clinic, family centre. The project has for some time established contact with the police, social services and many schools and colleges which also make contact with Arosdaughters for cooperation in helping girls who are in danger.

 

21-22 January 2010 it was international conference again in Västerås. 104 people attended, from women’s right’s organizations in Sulaimayah in Iraq, London, Riga and Sweden. There were representatives from the County Council, Women’s shelter, youth clinic, family center, different schools, the Police, politicians and all others who come into contact with the target vulnerable girls and young women. 22 January, 2010 was the networking session and evaluation of the past year.
